Character: Aoi
Fandom: Witchblade [anime]
Personality: Aoi is, despite her usually calm and collected exterior, likely the most impulsive of the trio of negene sisters that faced off against the Witchblade wielder. Her fierce loyalty to Maria, which contrasts strikingly to how uninterested Asagi is, drives her. She's more than happy to do anything for Maria, or anything that she knows would make Maria proud of her; though she's particularly skilled at dissembling any emotions pertaining to this around anyone who isn't Maria. Given her dedication and determination towards making Maria proud, Aoi tends to be a very proper, follow-the-rules sort of individual who wants to see things done.

Given her physiology as well as training and education from birth, she has talents in just about anything. Despite this, she isn't above taking care of tasks that could be considered menial by others. Her primary concern is usually that there are things that need to be done and expectations that need to be met.

Though she had always held her other sisters in high regard, a significant turning point came when Maria spared her, helped her, and praised her mid-spar. Following that point, Aoi remained as close to Maria as possible, doing anything and everything she could for her, to help her, and to learn from her to support her further. Her dedication to Maria, instead of to their "Father", was tested and proven when Maria murdered him only a few feet away from her and Aoi didn't so much as bat an eye, believing fully in Maria's choice and goals. Later, Aoi also ensured that the plans to eliminate all of the first generation cloneblades was carried out. No matter the plan, no matter why or what, if it meant supporting Maria she would go so far as to do it.

Though much of what Aoi does was dictated by what Maria had ordered her to do, she is driven by a desire to learn and become better. In the series, it is specifically for Maria, but otherwise she wishes to overcome her own weaknesses in general. She's intelligent and analytical enough to realize her weaknesses and, without Maria to support, she'll be focused on not repeating her past mistakes. After spending a considerable amount of time with Maria, she'd learned and actually rid herself of some innocence and naivety that she'd had from her sheltered upbringing. Without that time together with Maria as a role model, she likely wouldn't have the maturity she posesses for a 15-year-old.

Unfortunately, she also has a habit of speaking out when others are blatantly being disrespectful, rude, or improper. This is evident multiple times when Aoi chastises Asagi for her rude comments and behavior, especially about Maria. Most of the time it's like shouting at a brick wall, but that doesn't stop her from trying to correct Asagi.

Addendum: On her own, Aoi is more of an introverted girl. Choosing only to interact with others when either ordered or necessary. Compared to her other sisters, who are usually very energetic, Aoi is typically reserved and silent until her turn to act. Though, following the end-of-series events she also took on the habit of correcting others when the need arose. She was helped once in a time of need, and she's always willing to try to guide others to behave properly.

Aoi has a silent respect for her other sisters, but given that the purpose they've been taught is to excel in every way, her priorities are usually more set on fulfilling the expectations set of her. For that very same reason, she follows deadlines and prefers order in her actions. She has plans and long term goals that she strives to succeed, and remains determined until she reaches them; even if it pits her against odds that may not be entirely in her favor.

Of course, that isn't to say that she won't act out without a plan or interact with others, but usually she waits for someone to come to her first off. Though, if there's obviously something to be gained from interacting with others, she wouldn't pass up an opportunity. Either physical benefits or knowledge benefits, anything to get a step ahead and have an edge over the competition is worth investing time into.

Though, everything mentioned above comes full circle because Aoi wouldn't ignore requests for help despite the little benefit in it for her. She's more than conscious that weak individuals are capable of recovering and improving further given time, much like she herself had done, and that's enough of a reason to lend a hand where she can.

History: The Witchblade Wiki & Wikipedia. [Aoi only appeared in the final 1/4 of the series so this is all there is.]
Timeline: Post-Death

Abilities: Dual Cloneblades: Meaning abilities equivalent to the actual Witchblade in the canon. Particular abilities of note are significantly enhanced strength, speed, and durability, improved jumping height and distance (making buildings and bridges no big deal to jump around on), energy projectiles, and growing sickle/fan-like blades out of her armor as well as growing/changing her hair into semi-prehensile, spiked sickle-like tendrils to use as weapons.

Neogene Physiology: In a nutshell, she's genetically engineered to be better, faster, smarter, stronger, and all-around hardier than an average human being. Beyond the obvious strength enhancements, Neogenes are also capable of studying and mastering subjects on their own in a matter of days, so long as they have suitable source material and an environment to do so. May or may not also include a photographic memory.

Inventory: Clothes and the cloneblade bracelets on her wrists. She didn't have much stuff anyway.

Prose Sample: No no no no no no. This was wrong, this was all wrong. Last she recalled, she'd been bleeding, dying, crystallizing. Worse yet, she'd failed. She knew she'd failed. She'd gone and died, leaving Maria-sama all alone to obtain the Witchblade. Her final words had been those of motivation, of hope. But what good were words? Words couldn't fight, they couldn't save, they were but wasted air. She'd been chosen to help, chosen specifically to fight alongside Maria-sama and she'd gone and died.

But if she was dead, what was this? She honestly hadn't believed in an afterlife, and if this was an afterlife, who was she going to meet here? Would she be alone forever, here, or would she be with others? The questions were enough to force her eyes open to see just what the reality was.

Nothing special.

Or rather, nothing that stood out to her. Honestly, it was like she was outdoors. Sitting on the steps of a building that she hadn't turned to look over, but nothing seemed very special. Nothing, save for a pair of items quite near her. A crown and a mirror, laying abandoned, on the ground. Beyond the fact that it was out of place, just laying there, there was a nagging curiosity in the back of her mind. If she was dead, what did she look like? Was she covered in blood, all crystal, or pale and lifeless? As before, the questions guided her actions and she rose the mirror up to peer at herself. One thing caught her eye: though there was nothing unusual, nothing out of place, and certainly no blood trickling down over her skin, there was the message that flashed to life upon the mirror's surface.

Demeleier. Crown. Protection. "Announce" your arrival?

This didn't match what she'd imagined when she thought "afterlife". Silently, she settled her fingers on the crown. Why a crown? Why a mirror? Again, questions, though this time she'd already heard the answers. She kept her hold on the mirror, the surface displaying something else in place of the message as she slipped the crown on. It was a start. Now she just needed more answers for the questions already flooding into her head. Gathering herself, she looked upon the mirror once more and, thankfully with only the slightest apprehension evident in her voice, spoke. 'I'm here.'

Journal Sample: [ Holding it as if it were a camera, because that's what she'd attributed the mirror as given its functions, Aoi stared upon the surface for a few moments curiously. Her blue eyes watching, waiting to see any sort of clue or answer she could grab before she began. ]

I have questions.

[ What a spectacularly impressive beginning, but there wasn't any point in wasting time with idle talk or idle chatter. She had questions, that was it, plain and simple. ]

Many of them can wait, but most importantly I would like to know where we are and why we're here.

[ She wanted confirmation or denial of her current assumed answers to those questions which were: "The afterlife" and "To atone for sins" respectively. She knew the common assumptions, and those were all that were coming to her mind. ]

I would appreciate the help of anyone who can offer answers.

[ Manners, after all. She hadn't moved from where she was on the steps. She'd arrived here, she'd found the crown and the message, and she certainly wasn't moving without answers or the "help" that the message had promised. Her questions posed and announcement made, she looks away from the mirror. Now she just has to wait, probably. ]
